Author Enitan Bereola Brings Chivalry Back
Author Enitan Bereola Brings Chivalry Back
By Crystal-Lee NaomiChivalry in young America today is almost nonexistent. It’s a huge, yet pleasant surprise if a young person in American culture today were to do some sort of chivalrous act because it is almost considered “old fashion” and maybe even uncool to many young people.
Enitan O. Bereola II however, begs to differ. Bereola, author of Bereolaesque The Gentleman & Etiquette Book For the Urban Sophisticate, talks about a sort of refined way of living after his own lifestyle that he calls Bereolaesque. His book ties together chivalry and striving for success. Bereola, 27, believes that his purpose in life is to bring what he has learned to the table and ultimately improve the lives of others through his book.
“A very close friend of mine who passed away, Tavarious Taylor, encouraged me to write it,” said the California native. “When we would go out, he saw the way I treated people and the way I treated life and he would see the way that people reacted. I didn’t take him serious at first but he told me I should write a book about it. He saw me as a gentleman, but not a corny one –not like an old grandpa with suspenders. Tavarious literally sparked the idea and I believed in me because he believed in me.”
Bereola’s book does not just preach about what chivalrous acts are and how important practicing chivalrous behavior is. Bereola uses his own mannerisms developed from his life experiences to show readers that it is becoming to strive for excellence and therefore become a better person. For instance, Bereola talks about the golden rule: treating people the way you want to be treated, only he says to take it a step further and to treat people better than you want to be treated.
“The book isn’t about changing a person,” Bereola explained. “It’s about maintaining your identity and enhancing it. I want people to see that there is a quality lifestyle out there that renders positive results.”

Bereola is currently working on a follow up to his first book, which will be an etiquette book for women. “It will discuss ladies’ etiquette from a gentleman’s perspective,” he said. “It will be empowering to women and it will talk about a woman’s value and worth.”
In essence, where Justin Timberlake’s Bringing Sexy Back meets Ne-Yo’s Year of The Gentleman, you will find Bereola and his book Bereolaesque. In about 200 pages, one can learn how to be well-mannered, stylish and successful ⎯in a Bereolaesque type of way, of course.
Gentlemen. Evolve.

The title Bereolaesque has a bit of an ego though. If its cover judges the book, it is easy to think that Bereola is trying to tell people to be more like him to become successful. However that is not the case. Bereola has no intention of creating any clones. “[Bereolaesque] is coming from my perspective,” he said. “If you read it, it’s 100 percent me. So everything is according to me and it represents my personal take on chivalry.”
The readers and followers of his movement have definitely taken Bereola’s outlook into account. He has marketed his book successfully via Internet. He has acquired over 23,000 friends and followers collectively on his books’ Twitter, Facebook and Myspace accounts.

Bereola has also spoken at colleges, universities and functions to spread the message in his book to young people. He recently spoke to students at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University to spread his vision with young people.
“[The book coming out during this time when chivalry is nearly absent in young American culture nowadays] is perfect timing because every decade there are changes in trends and culture,” Bereola said. “Now it’s time for another change and the way I’m approaching it is enticing.”
Bereolaesque is great for enhancing the lifestyle of both men and women, not to mention it is getting people to read who normally would not. Women who read Bereolaesque, “get to see what else is out there, as far as men,” Bereola said. “Women want that type of lifestyle. They want a gentleman to open doors and pull out chairs for them. And men see that that’s what women want also so [the book] is great for both sexes.”
